BOOKS:
The Only Way to Learn Astrology
by March & McEvers vol 1,2,3,.... (more available, but vols 1,2, and 3 will take you a long way for now)

get an "Ephemeris"
it lists the planetary postions of the Sun, Moon and the Planets, get one that covers at least from 1950-2000 (noon, not midnight*), one page every month, a row per day, note: "Poor Richards Almanac" by Ben Franklin was an Ephemeris with social comments.

*I recommend an Ephemeris that is Noon (not midnight) becasue: The Ephemeris is in GMT Greenwhich Mean Time, which is in Jolly Old England, or 8 hours away from California Time (or 7 hrs difference during daylight savings time, take note of this, you will be coming back to it again, "daylight savings time, now is that, instead of 8 hours, is that 9 hours difference or 7 hours difference? hhhhmmm let me figure it out" believe me, its 7). So during regular time, when its Noon (like the ephemeris) then its 4 am in California (thats easy enough) but if you get a Midnight ephemeris (your option, check it before purchase) the time is for 4 pm, the day before, and that makes things quite confusing, only if you insist. Just wait till you get to "Log of Interval", you'll just love that.

Now your on your way to becoming an astrologer (most astrologers are not professionals, in that they dont make their living directly from astrology, they work with astrology as a tool to understanding)
